I Got Good News …and Bad News…!

Gardening! …It Grows on Ya!

So here it is the 3rd of March, 2012 Ember Saturday,

Salad Blend

incidentally, and my seedlings are well underway. Some may think that I’ve jumped the gun on starting seeds but considering that the winter has been the most mild in my memory, I think not. Also consider that for the most part I’m growing seeds that are either cool weather or require a long growing season. I’m also going to start my remedy herb plants so that, comes the real planting season, (around here May 31), the herbs will be stout and strong enough to get a jump on production and harvest.

Watercress tank

I’ve also begun an affordable aquaculture project in the green house. It consists of a 30 gallon aquarium tank, in which I’ve floated some Styrofoam that has about two dozen holes penetrating it. These holes are ideal for small pots with small gravel into which I’ve inserted watercress cuttings from the grocery.

After thirty-six hours the plants have wilted but are putting out rootlets and once again beginning to perk up.

Watercress floats

The water in the tank itself I fertilized with organic seaweed and fish fertilizer. I also added 4 capsules of blue-green algae from the health food store. This will condition the tank for the eventual introduction of tilapia, (tilapia buttikoferi). The conditioning will provide a rich micro-nutrient bloom that will be rich in microscopic flora and fawn to sustain the fish, which in turn will fertilize the watercress.  Eventually, the whole system will be self-sustaining and provide not only fresh daily cuttings of healthful watercress, but also, hopefully, fresh tilapia by the end of the season. Stay tuned for progress reports on this project.

Meantime, Back in the Rabbitry!

The maternity cages have been set up and the does about

Minnie Mac

to kindle are in place. As can be seen from the picture Minnie Mac, an experienced doe has settled in nicely and has begun pulling the soft fur from her belly to make a comfy nest for the expected kits. The fact that she is doing this is the best indicator that she is, indeed, pregnant. The other doe, Blaze, failed in her last attempt to produce kits which is understandable because that was her first experience. However, although she seems to be settled in her new nest she has not yet begun to pull fur; but there is still time for this. It seems that although most rabbit terms are between 28 and 31 days, my Florida Whites seem to consistently take about 32 days from insemination to birth. So we should be getting our new babies within this week.

Now…For the Bad News!

Remember, those brave and noble freedom fighting rebels in Libya, (whom we aided), and who eventually toppled the Muammar Gaddafi government? We let’s see how their fledgling democracy is working out.

Inflation Is A Tax And The Federal Reserve Is Taxing The Living Daylights Out Of Us

As a follow-up to my last report on gas prices being a factor of inflation rather than increasing prices, here is an article that details the actual evils of inflation. Keep in mind that the danger of inflation was and is a calculated risk of not only the Obama Administration but also that of the previous Bush Administration. In essence, both of them were simply kicking the can further down the road. The problem is the can gets bigger with each kick. Even the newbie economic student realizes that like everything else, the economy is cyclic going through ups and downs, advances and corrections. Yet, in order to avoid any natural declines the economic and political powers that be simply plug another finger in the dike; all the time realizing the force of the water behind the dam only builds until the inevitable collapse and severe destruction inundates everything downstream.

Now for a Happy Ending …well, sort of…

17 States Considering State Banks

Finally, we have the germ of common sense manifesting itself.  This concept coincides with the Distributist theory of Subsidiarity, that is, the smaller and closer to those most affected by an action the better the results of a solution to any problem.

As the storm clouds gather have recourse to the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She can and will intercede with her Son on our behalf if we but ask. Join in solidarity with the SSPX’s campaign to storm heaven by saying the Rosary and dedicating it to the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, it appears that now this may be our only hope.
