White Slavery Down on the Farm

White Slavery Down on the Farm

From the Sublime to the Ridiculous

Modern slavery on the family farm.

Is there no limit to the reach of big brother? The Obama Labor Department is proposing that children of family farms be restricted from chores based on Child Labor Laws. The Department of Labor is poised to put the finishing touches on a rule that would apply child-labor laws to children working on family farms, prohibiting them from performing a list of jobs on their own families’ land.

Under the rules, children under 18 could no longer work “in the storing, marketing and transporting of farm product raw materials.”

Under the guise of, “for the children” we have new restrictions placed on family farms, which is the occult purpose of such legislation. Thus we have a multi-pronged approach to limited choice when it comes to healthy food and food availability. The FDA in SWAT-like fashion is increasingly assaulting smallholdings and family farms for mandated raw dairy restrictions, and for alleged and randomly designated “exotic livestock”. Meantime, we have wacko animal rights radicals, like PETA, advocating for animal rights with the ultimate objective of shutting down any and all farms that raise animals for meat production and consumption. By stepping back and gaining perspective one can easily see that this is a coordinated effort to restrict and even eliminate family farms thus limiting consumers to the “pink slime” producing Big Agra.

Most Americans and Western Society in general, are so far removed from the nitty-gritty of the food chain they think that food comes from nature in clinically pure and esthetically pleasing Styrofoam trays with plastic wrap. Mainly because of this perception the consuming public does not realize the threats made against smallholding family farms are ultimately a threat to them as consumers. Those who do know, chiefly those who choose to eat healthy, are too few to be of consequence to any legislation that could potentially clip the wings of the Big Brother-Big Agra syndicate. So now is the time for these people, and that means the readership of Catholic Rural Solutions, to become proactive, even if that is only informing friends and associates of what is going on in the food and farming industry.

Another aspect of this not often taken into account is, once again, Big Brother, is usurping parental rights and authority. Since at least the 1960’s citizens have been seen as a resource, thus, we have a cultural and business designation change from the Personnel Department to Human Resources; certainly a subtle change in societal thinking. Corresponding to this we have had gradually more onerous laws undermining parental authority and control, examples of this are mandatory sex education in the school system; distribution of birth control without parental consent or even knowledge, and even abortions performed on minors without notifying the parents.  The State now looks on the role of the parent as stewards or agents of the State with the State having responsibility and “ownership” of the children, effectively making parents little more than incubators and monitors of State resources.

Now with the proposal of Obama’s Dept. of Labor the Administration can effectively control two crucial aspects of life in one step, that is, severely limit smallholdings while maintaining control of its human resources. Keep up those Rosaries for the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart; it is our only recourse!

About Catholic Rural Solutions

This group is for the practical application of Catholic Distributist teachings as promoted by Pope St. Pius X, Belloc, Chesterton, Maurin and others in the 20th century. This group is also a respite for traditional Catholics who adhere to the Tridentine Rite of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and who share a concern for small independent Catholic communities throughout the world. These communities while primarily small holding farmers, craftsmen and tradesman all espouse an integrated life based on Catholic Social Justice and the Sacred Magisterium of the Church. Through this we intend to inject the Distributist economic principles into the greater society. Please fell free to share your experiences in this vein. Flaming, proselytizing and persecution WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

Heaven forbid that kids get out and learn how to work, make them stay in the house and play video games and watch TV, that way they will grow up to be good Occupy Wall Street participants.
