“Pay No Attention to the Man Behind the Curtain”, Said the Great OZ
Don’t Let the Smoke and Mirrors Cloud Your Judgment
This is an election year, folks! So it follows that the incumbent Democratic candidate, in this case Barack Husain Obama, is the Great OZ behind the curtain. Like all incumbent hopefuls he is manipulating levers, pulling strings, pushing peddles, and otherwise massaging results to paint the best image possible of a supposed recovery; …and what a lightshow it is!
According to political and economic pundits we are in the midst of an economic recovery, inflation is negligible, and all is well in the ♫ Merry Ole’ Land of OZ ♫. Of course, if you are one of the great unwashed and need to buy gasoline and food, at the very least, weekly you know better than to think all is green and lush in Emerald City.
As to job creation, well, if you stare into the smoke and mirrors, rather than accept the spin that is provided, you will quickly discern that the jobs created are entry level at best and for the most part the equivalent of flipping burgers at your local fast food joint.
Now regarding the falling cost of gasoline, that is the result of not the lessening of tensions with Iran, but as explained several posts back, designed to heighten the effect of the sanctions imposed on Iran. It is, of course, also to help BHO’s recovery look and feel real. Remember, traditionally, in the weeks leading to the kickoff of summer driving the price of gasoline increases not decreases.
So expect to be wooed over the remainder of spring and the rest of summer with shadowy statistics of job creation, lower unemployment, decreased inflation, etc. That is up until the elections in November. So sure is Obama of re-election that he has told outgoing Russian President Medvedev that he will be able to cooperate even more fully with the incoming President Vladimir Putin after the elections; …and he may be right. We have a weak Republican showing of contenders standing against Obama; and most especially, because the voting public has been conditioned to believe that a vote for Ron Paul, the candidate with any real plan to change to the status quo, would be a wasted vote. However, I digress!
The goal of this Democratic Dog and Pony Show is strictly to maintain control of the White House; once accomplished the entire economic outlook will collapse like a cheap folding table. In fact, I will predict that within a fortnight of the election, (regardless of who is elected), prices of critical items like fuel and food will begin to rise; unemployment will increase eventually spiraling into another real estate market flop equal to or greater than the last of 2008-9. In turn causing increased foreclosures and dropping of home values. In the meantime, Prudence would dictate that any long term critical decisions should be deferred until later in the year. This would include buying a new home or other big ticket items. Conversely if you plan to sell real estate, be it a condo or home, do so now, before prices plummet, this will give you some flexibility in the post-crash market by having cash on hand to make some lucrative deals post-election.
