World on track for record food prices ‘within a year’ due to US drought

Worse is to come, new research warns. World food prices look set to hit an all-time high in the first quarter of next year – and then keep rising, according to the analysis from Rabobank, a specialist in agricultural commodities.

Edit.  If long time readers of CRS had been following the advice of this this newsletter all those many years ago, you should have adequate stores to fall back on in the lean times ahead. It still not too late to buy that extra can of food with each purchase to put back into stores. According to some estimates, average prices of foodstuffs by June of 2013 will be 15% higher than right now; so squirrel away what your family eats now while things are still available at relatively reasonable prices.

Household electricity bills skyrocket

Edit.  You might remember when Gramps used to run around the house turning off the lights and appliances in unoccupied rooms. Well, an obvious outcome of the headline above may see a new generation of Grandpas doing the same. In fact, even Moms and Dads will join in, not so much to be green, but to save hard earned Greenbacks. As fuel prices rise, the subsequent increase in the electric rates will be evident. This of course, is needless, as the US has abundant amounts of coal reserves, which still power many utility generators. Environmental restrictions and inane green laws are constricting further use of the fuel here at home. As to the “dirty coal” moniker, it is an invention of the overpaid ivory tower bureaucrats or undergraduate and post graduate students who are still on Mom and Dad’s meal ticket or on some form of grant and who don’t have to struggle for every dollar to feed and house a family. Coal burning technology, and even mining for that matter, has cleaned the face of coal quicker and more thoroughly than Aunt Polly on Huck Finn. The Great Obama, however, has declared war on King Coal thus increasing the costs of power but also depriving Americans of long-term jobs.

Rumors of wars…

The world is a powder keg now and Iran is touted as the one walking around with a lit match. However, with not much digging it is clear to see that the pundits have intentionally label the wrong party as the bully with the chip on the shoulder looking for someone to knock it off. The hawkish stance of Israel’s Netanyahu, would be the accurate assessment of the warmonger. Below is a web site, which quite accurately details the facts.

The Complete Idiot’s Guide To Iran And The Bomb, Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Facts

Edit.  It seems the past few years have been setting the stage for a neutralization of the threats to Israel. Starting with the so-called Arab Springs of the past two years, we, on behalf of Israel, have slowly whittled down any potential Iranian allies should Israel decide to act against Iran. Why, one might even say that our invasion and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan was a prelude to this staging for an Iranian war! Unfortunately, we, the US, complicated matters by this preliminary event in undermining the oil contracts that Iraq had with China, India, and Russia. This forced these nations into hasty contracts with Iran and now that saber rattling has begun with Iran, China and Russia have no recourse but to stand their ground. Effectively, we have arrived at a high-noon event in world geopolitical operations. As to who wears the white hats and who the black is yet be seen.

Much like the Crusaders of old, the intrigues of late have seen many strange bedfellows. For instance, We’ve waged a War on Terror mainly against a ill-defined group known as Al-Qaida, yet in the Arab Spring rebellions we funded, armed, and supported this and other groups like the Moslem Brotherhood to destabilize and eventually overthrow sovereign governments. These same “allies” now persecute Christians and even attack and kill our government ambassadors in the very countries we helped “liberate” (read destabilize).

We are now engaged in a final campaign to eliminate the last hurdle to Iran’s Middle Eastern Islamic network …the overthrow of Syria. This situation is different in that China and Russia,  well as Gaza and Lebanon’s Hezbollah, are aggressively giving aid and support to the Assad regime and things are not quite as smooth as previous “grassroots” rebellions of an alleged oppressed citizenry. Indeed, we now have calls on the part of the rebels for a cease-fire because they are taking a severe beating, and this is to say nothing of civilian casualties, aka collateral damage.

So here we stand, High Noon, Wyatt Earp against the Lowry’s; with Israel screaming in the background, “shoot, shoot, shoot”. In the balance, we have the coveted oil of the collective Middle East; the potential for a Greater Israel …not seen since the days of Solomon; the diversion of the US citizenry from the economically depressed state of affairs at home; and a potential for a major war against our old nemeses Russia and China. If it were not so serious, it would make a great story for the old Saturday morning serials: …tune in next week for the exciting conclusion of…

Aside: I wonder if this is the promised Era of Peace ushered in by the Consecration of the World, including Russia, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, which the Vatican told us covers the requests of Our Lady of Fatima? What do you think?

Faith and Morals…

Bishop Tissier de Malleraise confirms:
Rome-SSPX: With the Pope’s own signature:
Vatican II and the post-conciliar Magisterium must be accepted in full

“[T]he agreement considered in 2011-2012 lasted for six months, it has not been blessed by the Blessed Virgin. (We had prayed rosary after rosary, and we keep doing that, that is very good.) But the Blessed Virgin was clearly not behind this idea. She did not walk this path, because on June 30 (it’s a secret that I reveal to you, but it will be made public), on June 30, 2012, the Pope wrote with his own hand a letter to our Superior General, Bp. [Bernard] Fellay, signed personally: ‘I confirm to you in fact [that], in order [for you] to be truly reintegrated into the Church  [Tissier: let us move beyond this expression], it is necessary to truly accept the Second Vatican Council and the post-conciliar Magisterium.”

Emerging Illnesses (Pestilence)…

Saudi Health Officials Brace for Hajj Pilgrimage to Mecca

This year’s pilgrimage, set to begin Oct. 24, will come one month after the discovery of a SARS-like virus linked to the death of a Saudi man earlier this year. Another man, who is from Qatar but had recently traveled to Saudi Arabia, is in critical condition with the same infection.

The times they are a changin’…

Mom sues police and neighbor after she is arrested for letting her kids play outside

Edit.  In days gone by, children were allowed to roam free and explore their world, even in large cities like New York City, (horror of horrors) …hence the term street urchin. These were wonderful times of discovery not only about the world beyond the four walls of your home, but also of yourself and your capabilities and limitations. Now we not only see things like the above news article come to pass but also we see that parents now must fill their child’s every waking moment with some pre-programed diversion, effectively stunting their growth as proactive individuals capable of imaginative adventures of their own making. Well, I guess this is what comes of two working adults and the latchkey children they necessarily produce! Contemporary kids are so regimented with sports, martial arts courses, advance study courses designed to get them into better schools, and other diversions that they scarcely have time to be kids. Is it any wonder why adolescence has now extended into the mid to late twenty years of age?

Amazing mind reader reveals his ‘gift’

Edit.  Really this not so amazing when you realize that people knowingly reveal their innermost thoughts, feelings, and secrets on the social networks like Facebook, Twitter, etc. Add to this the matters of public knowledge that are available concerning many legal transactions, such as buying real estate and you begin to get the picture of what is actually known about you in the ether. Today, as this video points out, more is known about you than a confessor might have known in past times! Yikes! Remember, these people interviewed by the “seer” are random people off the street, who only gave their names. Scary, No?

Politics and more…

Sean Penn Wins ‘Barbra Streisand Political Award for Celebrity Vapidity’

Edit. Why is it that all these entertainers think their talent extends to socio-political spheres of influence? Whether a rock singer, actor, comic, etc. they seem to think that they have profound insights into vast areas that have nothing to do with their abilities. Meanwhile they are the modern equivalent of the jester in the king’s court there to entertain with buffoonery. Obviously, the inherent ego of an actor does come into play here. What is more perplexing is that the public gives such nonsense credibility, thus we have the New Age guru, Oprah, usurping the pastor of the Church, dispensing insipid counsel in matters of morality, social economics, and religion.

Bishop Paprocki warns of ‘intrinsic evils’ in Democratic platform

Edit. I’m sure by now that the ACLU is preparing a lawsuit to have the Church 501(3)C status revoked for political interference. Unfortunately, this is ruse to silence good and proactive Catholics from voicing moral teaching in an immoral society. All I can say is it’s about time that someone of prestige from within the Church hierarchy speaks to the issue. After all, our Faith is not limited to Mass on Sunday but meant to be lived in all man’s experiences. Kudos’ to this brave Bishop, if only there were more like him.

Let the men of wisdom speak…

For 700 years, with noble interruptions like the Counter-Reformation, the reality of Catholicism has been slowly eaten away by the cancerous fantasy of liberalism, which is the freeing of man from God by the freeing of nature from grace, of mind from objective truth and of will from objective right and wrong.

Once again, we have pearls of wisdom form His Excellency Bishop Richard N. Williamson, SSPX. His astute observations are most edifying to the Faithful.

Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof.

Domestically speaking…

Much to my dismay while preparing the coal stove for the winter season the black stovepipe proved to completely worn, rusted, and beyond any hope of making it through another heating season. So I was forced to replace all three sections. Well, I guess the patron of fire was not smiling on me, but then we all know whom he is. At any rate, the exhausting job was done in about a day and a half. I have meantime transferred the annual herbs into the newly repainted and reorganized greenhouse and they are acclimating quite nicely to the protected environment. In addition, this week the sauerkraut was canned and the last of the wine for the 2012 season moved to the secondary fermenter. The next step, in two weeks, will be bottling, labeling, and racking into the wine cellar.

Finally, the penultimate harvest of the garden was completed this week. There only remain the winter squashes, the potatoes, and the kale to pick. The winter squash will be picked as close to the first frost as possible and the kale after. It seems that frost has a positive effect on the flavor of this hardy green. The potatoes are to be dug within the next week and should give us enough to last the winter season.

Overall, it was not a bad harvest though I was somewhat neglectful and disheartened when the weeds and squashes took over the garden. We did get some tomatoes but they still haven’t turned red. I will probably just cut the green ones from the vines and let them ripen in the house.

Therefore, the 2012 garden season is quickly ending. Little is left to be done outside with the exception of turning the spent garden and laying a cover of compost over it for the winter. This will allow the hens to forage for the juicy bugs and mix the soil and compost into an integrated blend. I prefer to do this now as opposed to spring so that any leaching of nutrients from the compost will take place directly in the garden soil and lessen the need for immediate fertilization in the spring.

Final commentary…

By our Faith, we are all called to be proactive witnesses to the Truth. In today’s “whatever” complacency this is not very popular; those who stand are often ridiculed even by people of Faith. We applaud Bishops like Paprocki and Williamson, they know that their stands will make them targets, yet they stand nevertheless. It is time that the Church once again takes social and economic stands on many issues that affect the Faith and not just religious issues because all things reduce to our Faith. We, all must stand for the Truths of the Faith. We must fight proactively in the temporal world as well as the spiritual. We the Faithful must follow the example of the good and Faithful bishops, not based on our rights, but on the morality of right and justice. Please continue to pray the Rosary, as H.E. Bishop Williamson states, because the Consecration of Russia to Mary’s Immaculate Heart is key to solving the many, if not all, the problems our world faces.

Caveat: I’m not in anyway giving or advocating any medical or financial advice but merely informing you of the controversies involved in this topic and the dilemma they present to the thinking Catholic in our times.  I do not intend to give medical or financial advice or take any responsibility for anyone else’s health, medical  or financial positions and decisions and as always encourage everyone to be fully informed, through personal research and contact a professional advisor before making any medical or financial decisions.

These communities while primarily small holding farmers, craftsmen and tradesman all espouse an integrated life based on Catholic Social Justice and the Sacred Magisterium of the Church. Through this we intend to inject the Distributist economic principles into the greater society. Please fell free to share your experiences in this vein. Flaming, proselytizing and persecution WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.
