On the Lighter Side…

This Selfless Moment Will Bring You to Tears — See What Happens When Mentally Challenged Player Is Put in the Game

Mitchell Marcus is a student and the men’s basketball team manager at Coronado High School in El Paso, Texas. According to Marcus’ mother he’s had a love of the game since a young age, but because he has a mental disability he doesn’t officially play for the team.

Edit. Now this is the real meaning of sportsmanship, and the real reason for scholastic sports.

The Wal-Mart Indicator: We’re Heading for a Stagflationary Disaster

Report: United States lost 11,630 farms in 2012

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — The United States now has nearly 2.2 million farms after losing 11,630 farms last year, according to a government report released Tuesday.

The National Agricultural Statistics Service’s annual snapshot of farms also pegs the total land in U.S. farms at 914 million acres. That is 3 million acres fewer acres than last year. The average farm size is 421 acres.

Edit.  This report lists all farms. Small farms, those with fewer than $10,000 in sales, fell by 2.5 percent to 1.17 million.

Meantime, The numbers for farms in other size categories increased by roughly 1 or 2 percent. This would indicate, though it is not explicitly stated, that big corporate farms have increased, likely at the expense of all the other independent and small farms.

As the number and quality of the small independent and family farms increasingly fall so too does the independence of consumers on quality produce and meats. Additionally, Big-Ag will control the network of distribution of food, that is, they will control food production as a commodity rather than a human need.

Rumors of Wars…

Chinese Hackers Have a Weapon of Mass Destruction That No One Is Talking About

The rousing report out of Mandiant about Chinese internet exploitation focused primarily on the widespread, systematic, state-sponsored thievery of proprietary data.

What it also mentioned (almost in passing) was the penetration of American energy structures, what most people call “critical infrastructure.” Exploiting the aging electrical grid, in a cyber-military strike, has been a growing concern of planners in the U.S. Government.

Faith and Morals…

Please don’t say “We’re all sedevacantists now”

“Sedevacantism,”… is a position taken by a small number of traditional Catholics who believe that those who call themselves post-conciliar popes are guilty of formal manifest heresy and have thus lost their office. The average traditional Catholic has little in common with this position, since it comprises the belief that none of the Cardinals gathered are true Cardinals, and most of the world’s bishops are not even bishops. The Papal Election of 2013 will not change anything for sedevacantists, since the men in the Sistine Chapel are fraudulent Cardinals with no authority to elect a Supreme Pontiff.

Edit.  This is an outstanding piece by my friend John Vennari of Catholic Family News. It is a timely and important article well worth the reading and I urge all traditional Catholics, regardless of your views on this to read it. In addition I would encourage all readers of Catholic Rural Solutions to subscribe to this newspaper, which echoes the voice of traditional Catholics.

Aspartame in Milk Without a Label? Big Dairy Petitions FDA For Approval

Two powerful dairy organizations, The International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) and the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF), are petitioning the Food and Drug Administration to allow aspartame and other artificial sweeteners to be added milk and other dairy products without a label.

The FDA currently allows the dairy industry to use “nutritive sweeteners” including sugar and high fructose corn syrup in many of their products. Nutritive sweeteners are defined as sweeteners with calories.

Edit. Truly this is an outrage when consumers are not advised of what goes into their foodstuffs. It is about time that labeling be included on all products containing adulterated ingredients like aspartame, GMO’s, etc.

How “Organic Food” regulations pushed real organic growers out of the market and benefited Big Agriculture

A short and interesting video from a discussion on food at The American Enterprise Institute. The discussion ranged from food truck regs to, as we see here, organic food labeling used as a tool of crony capitalism

Edit. This highlights what I’ve been saying in recent past issues of CRS, that there is no precise and legitimate definitions for organic or natural. Your only recourse is to grow it yourself.

The Times They Are a Changin’…

What Are the Best and Worst States for Second Amendment Fans?

The Brady group scores states on a variety of topics – things like state license requirements and background checks on all purchases. No state scores a perfect 100 with Brady, but California gets an 81, and that is before any new laws that will get put in place following the Sandy Hook massacre.

Edit. While the intention of this Brady anti-gun crowd article is to highlight states that in their opinion are “enlightened” in the evils of guns and weapons, the unintended consequence it provides guidelines for those citizens and patriots who are voting with their feet and finding States to live in that honor and protect the Constitution

Senators Press Resolution to Green-Light Israeli Attack on Iran –

According to a copy obtained by Open Zion, the resolution, while affirming increasingly harsh sanctions, also “urges that, if the Government of Israel is compelled to take military action in self-defense, the United States Government should stand with Israel and provide diplomatic, military, and economic support to the Government of Israel in its defense of its territory, people, and existence.”

Edit.  Now that the entire Arab world is in shambles and Syria is crippled with Western supported Islamic fundamentalist insurrection we see the strategy for the manipulation of the undermining of Iran, if not a direct attack on this nation. Unfortunately, these short sighted strategists are, in fact, setting up a Frankenstein of diplomatic error that will come back to bite them in the butt.  As in all the Arab nations overturned since 2010 Islamists will gain the upper hand in government and impose Sharia law on all its citizens, Islamic or otherwise. In fact, I believe it is safe to say that as each nation becomes officially Islamic they will join in a pan-Islamic force that will unite around the common interest of destroying the nation of Israel. Such a union will be more vitriolic and formidable than Iran under the Revolution that brought the Islamic state to power in 1979. There is potential here for even unborn Americans to sacrifice their lives in the Middle East twenty or thirty years down the road.

Meantime, the move to re-form the Greater Israel the likes of which have not been seen since Solomon continue unabashedly and steadily.

Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof.

Domestically Speaking…

For at least a third week I’ve been locked away in my self-imposed dungeon with the remodeling task. This week has been mainly devoted to designing, fashioning, staining, and installing the built-in shelving for the bar and the vast collection of beta videos assembled over the years. Next week will be the foundation of the bar which will be permanently affixed to the floor and the connection of the wet-bar sink. Meantime, with completion of this project all will be ready for the electrician to do his thing in setting up the proper recepticles for the radio shack and the recessed lighting

Yesterday was spent reconditioning and refurbishing the exercise equipment which with the abatement of the molds and the addition of the de-humidifier I hope to re-start my daily exercise routine. This alone occupied the entire day.

Meantime, because of the remaining snow scattered throughout the property I’ve been unable to do my usual weekly clean-up of the rabbitry. This will need to be done, without delay still this week as the snow melts from the ground allowing my wheelbarrow to move through to the compost bins and the garden soil. Additionally, the hen-house needs a thorough seasonal cleaning and mucking. Again the contents will be a much needed addition to the compost bins to set them a’cooking for the season. This week will also begin the preparation for the new gardening season by fertilizing the greenhouse plants to respond to the increasing sunlight.

Speaking of the upcoming season now is the time to make sure you have all your equipment for the planting and germination of the 2013 crops. Here in New England it is still a might early to actually begin, (the best time is about 8 weeks before last frost date, which is May 31 around here), I will begin setup of the greenhouse for my flats and begin planting on or about March 25th.  One exception I make is, depending on weather prediction, is to plant peas on St. Patrick’s Day, which has been a tradition in the family for many generations, though at the time we live in NYC which was in the earlier weather zone.

As you can see, time is quickly moving on and that is why I’m anxious to finish the basement project. As stated, this week we will finish the rough framing and will await the electrician. After which we will still need to get and install the wallboard, mud and sand it, and finally prime and paint it. This must be done within the next three weeks in order to get into my outdoor garden chores at the end of the month.

Putting It all In Perspective & Final commentary…

There is much going on in the world both secular and religious. It seems things are being arranged for truly exciting times ahead: new pope; hiatus of talks between SSPX and Rome; increasing luke-warmness among traditional Catholics; continued economic decline; saber-rattling from the East South China Sea to Greece, Spain, and other distressed nations. It is obvious that something big is about to happen, perhaps before the springtime is completed.

Remember, this October, 2013 will mark the 100th anniversary of Fatima and Our Lady request for the Consecration of Russia to her Immaculate Heart has still not taken satisfactorily taken place. In general, God patiently waits for our acquiescence to His will. In the case or the Consecration of France to the Sacred Heart He waited approximately 100 years after which, when it was too late, the French Revolution happened. This introduced to the world not only rebellion to Christ and His Church, but also the enthronement of man over Christ the King. This situation has still not been righted.

So pray fervently and without tiring the Rosary for this purpose, the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary as the hour glass of 100 years is quickly draining.

About Catholic Rural Solutions

This group is for the practical application of Catholic Distributist teachings as promoted by Pope St. Pius X, Belloc, Chesterton, Maurin and others in the 20th century. This group is also a respite for traditional Catholics who adhere to the Tridentine Rite of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and who share a concern for small independent Catholic communities throughout the world. These communities while primarily small holding farmers, craftsmen and tradesman all espouse an integrated life based on Catholic Social Justice and the Sacred Magisterium of the Church. Through this we intend to inject the Distributist economic principles into the greater society. Please fell free to share your experiences in this vein. Flaming, proselytizing and persecution WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.
