Feria Day

And speaking he said; Blessed be the name of the Lord from eternity and forevermore; for wisdom and fortitude are his. And he changeth times and ages: taketh away kingdoms and establisheth them, giveth wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to them that have understanding. He revealeth deep and hidden things, and knoweth what is in darkness: and light is with him. Dan.2: 20-22

On the Lighter Side…

Bread & Milk

This is obviously an exaggeration, but not by much, of the panic that sets in when the weatherman forecasts snow. Whether 1 to 3 inches or 18 to 24 inches people seem to panic and make irrational choices, as if bread and milk will sustain them through emergencies, most especially long term. Meantime, enjoy the fun.

An economy of peak food stamp usage, peak Dow, and peak Debt: What does it say about our economy

What the media does not convey is that the stock market is largely not a true indicator of health for the underlying economy.  Few Americans own any significant amount of financial wealth.  Most Americans rely on actual jobs to live and support their family.  Many of these companies are increasingly earning higher profits by slashing wages, cutting benefits, and earning profits from their business abroad.  What the press does not tell you is the standard of living for many Americans has moved backwards over the last few decades.  Median household income is now back to levels last seen in the mid-1990s.

Edit.  So true! So true!

Rumors of Wars…

U.S. Increasing Missiles on the West Coast in Beefed-Up Defense Effort Against N. Korea

“As we think about our homeland missile-defense posture, we do not have a ‘just-in-time’ policy,’” Miller said. “Our policy is to stay ahead of the threat – and to continue to ensure that we are ahead of any potential future Iranian or North Korean ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile) capability.”

Miller noted that last December, North Korea launched a satellite into space, demonstrating its mastery of some of the same technologies required for development of an intercontinental ballistic missile.

“Our concern about Pyongyang’s potential ICBM capability is compounded by the regime’s focus on developing nuclear weapons. North Korea’s third nuclear test last month is obviously a serious concern for all nations,” he said.

Edit.  It seems that either allied governments are taking the threats of non-aligned nations seriously, or as they push their backs further against the wall in trying to get them onboard the New World Order they anticipate some unpleasant reactions.

Faith and Morals…

Habemus Papam

Argentine Jorge Bergoglio has been elected pope, the first ever from the Americas and the first from outside Europe in more than a millennium. He chose the name Pope Francis. (March 13)

Bp. Williamson’s Conference, Post Falls, ID – February 26, 2013 Part 2 of 3

Bp. Williamson Conference, Post Falls, Idaho – February 26, 2013 – Part 3 of 3

Edit.  This is a recap of the Crisis of Tradition as only His Excellency Bishop Richard N. Williamson could do. It is important for Catholics of good Faith to listen to all sides in this very serious situation. It is then up to these same Catholics, based on the traditional Sacred Magisterium of the Church, to determine, who if any, follows the traditional Catholic Faith. Remember, we don’t follow men, even Churchmen, but the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

I wonder that you are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ, unto another gospel. Which is not another, only there are some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach a gospel to you besides that which we have preached to you, let him be anathema. As we said before, so now I say again: If any one preach to you a gospel, besides that which you have received, let him be anathema. For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? If I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. Gal.1:6-10

Also as a reminder His Excellency Bishop Williamson will be in the NY metropolitan area for Confirmations and for a conference at the end of March, beginning April, 2013. The conference will be held on Easter Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Sheet Metal Workers Union Hall at 38 Starr Ridge Road, Brewster, NY 10509. All are invited and welcome.

Bishop Fellay’s Doctrinal Preamble

Presented to Rome, 15th April 2012

Edit.  The above is the alleged official response of the SSPX to Rome’s Preamble proposal which was submitted to Rome in mid-April 2012. It is reported to have come from an SSPX source who had received it as part of his official capacity within the Society. If accurate, it is a drastic divergence from the previous stand of the SSPX since its founding under His Excellency Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, of happy memory.

Indications seem to authenticate this document, which would mean that the leadership of the Society will have to do some mighty fancy-dancing to enact damage control and restore confidence. We await the clarification, if any, from the leadership of the SSPX.

Antibiotics resistance ‘as big a risk as terrorism’ – medical chief

Professor Dame Sally Davies described it as a “ticking time bomb”. She warned that routine operations could become deadly in just 20 years if we lose the ability to fight infection.

Edit. This issue has often been raised in the pages of CRS. Since the discovery of antibiotics in the early 20th Century they’ve been responsible for the extension of life. Indeed, mankind had reached the historic height of longevity largely because of antibiotics. However, largely because of over-prescription various bacteria and germs have developed and continue to develop immunity to these drugs.

I’ve long been of the opinion that the era of antibiotics will be an aberration of man’s medical history and that we will soon see a reduction of lifespans more in line with the 19th Century. While improved medical hygiene and silver was and is effective against bacteria and germs it was nowhere near as effective as antibiotics. Thus as bacterial immunity increases reliance will shift to increased hygiene and use of silver and other alternative methodologies will try to fill the void. These however, are not sufficient to make up for the antibiotics.

The Times They are a Changin’…

Residents Urged To Prep For ‘Two Weeks On Your Own’ On Quake Anny

“The message for a lot of us needs to be, ‘Be ready for anything’,” said Battalion Chief Larry Collins. “The message used to be 72 hours, but we’ve seen in disasters like [Hurricane] Katrina, even [Hurricane] Sandy recently, that, really, if it’s wiped out your infrastructure, and your electricity grid and your communications, it will be very likely be more than three days before you start getting food, water and other supplies coming in from outside.”

Edit. Wow! This is a surprising vindication for those of us who have been ridiculed and ribbed about prepping for many years. Indeed, many recent catastrophes like hurricanes, ice storms, blizzards, and droughts are bringing home the realization to pampered Americans that we ultimately must rely on our own resources and ingenuity… or suffer the consequences like the victims of hurricane Katrina and more recently Sandy.

In this made for InfoWars.com ‘Operation Paul Revere’ documentary, Christopher Greene of AMTV examines the influence of technology on the human condition and what it means for the future of humanity.

Edit.Though I’m generally not a fan of Infowars, too shrill and sensational for my tastes, this is a truly frightening extrapolation of what technology will do to humanity. Definitely worth watching most especially for the Children of the Screen.

For the Record : Gun Control

“For The Record” episodes normally upload at least 30 days after appearing on WND.com under Molotov’s column. Will demandaplan.org’s petition REALLY help curb gun violence?

Note this is an expose of the phony demandaplan nonsense.

Edit.  I’ve been subscribe to this gentlemen’s Illuminati TV for a couple of years. He is a real conservative and don’t let the title fool you he exposes the Illuminati rather than promotes it. He is a very bright young man who is a conservative activist and worth the listen to his production.

Let the men of wisdom speak…

Catholics: The Original Quiver Full

Thank God for guiding his Church! While every other segment of Christianity dropped one by one like flies, there remained a line in the sand. And it is a line which the Catholic Church, and only the Catholic Church has always and will always maintain.
While the grandparents of today’s “Quiverfull” Protestants were using contraception and teaching others to do  the same (based on “biblical” arguments of course), Catholics of the same period were forbidden by their Church to do so, and were being warned by their Pope of the cultural meltdown to come from contraception.

Edit.  This article is from a convert to the Catholic Faith, who has seen the Truths of the Catholic Church and the errors of false faiths. Among these errors is the contraceptive mindset. The article is an excellent commentary on the sexual morality of truly Catholic husbands and wives. I highly recommend this short essay for your reading. Please be aware that much of his writing is hopelessly Novus Ordo, but this may be just a developmental step as he imbibes the Truth of the Catholic Faith, therefore, for the time being overlook his blindness and enjoy his essay on children.

Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof.

Domestically Speaking…

Finally, finally, I’ve emerged from the dungeon, at least to some degree. With the relatively milder weather of the past week I was able to muck out the henhouse and the rabbitry both of which were sorely needed, most especially the rabbits. The rabbits are housed in a battery type setup which is three cages high by four cages wide; each cage containing a galvanized metal tray underneath. Generally, these are easily cleaned weekly by dumping them in a wheelbarrow and bringing them directly to the garden or compost. This year this has been difficult with a two week turn around being normal, and I might add about the max capacity of the trays. Meantime, due to the snow we received about three weeks ago the pans were literally filled to overflowing. So a thorough cleaning of the shed, trays, and cages ensued during this week. It was roughly a 4 hour job utilizing, after dumping into the wheelbarrow, an old shopvac, which had a disposable bag within.

The henhouse, however, was quite a different story. With chickens a quarterly cleaning is not just de rigor, but actually conducive to helping keep the cluckers healthy and happy. With the foundation of cedar shavings the droppings accumulate and form a layer of what amounts to sheet composting. This is essentially a bio-filter that provides a home to good organism that begin to breakdown of the components into healthy garden nutrients. The process of composting also adds some heat to the house on the cold winter nights.

While both mucking jobs are rather unpleasant, second only to dispatching and processing the stock, it also is a necessary duty. The product of all this cleaning will pay back in spades come this season’s garden as essential nutrients are replaced in the soil.

While I missed the optimal pruning season for the orchard I’m keeping a close eye on the slowly but surely swelling buds so as to apply the dormant oil at the ideal moment which is just when the buds are about to open; no sooner or later.

In the greenhouse I’ve begun feeding my wintered over plants and herbs and the effects are showing with greening up of the leaves and even flowering of the geraniums, though this is largely effected by increasing sunlight.

I was also able this week to install new bird houses (4) around the backyard. These include two bluebird and two wren houses. This is just in the nick of time, as well, as I spotted the first bluebird of the season just the day after installation. While it’s still scouting time I sure the males will soon be settling in to attract their mates. Speaking of wild birds, I was really surprised this year to see a flock of about 100 robins descends on my lawn as early as February 4, 2014. Generally, in this area they don’t return until St. Joseph’s day, March 19th, but this year they seems to have already established their traditional territories and have been singing their dawn serenades since mid-February. I wonder what that portends in the natural world?

Putting It all In Perspective & Final commentary…

Creeping Modernism

As the crucial year of 2017 (the centennial anniversary of the Message of Fatima regarding the Immaculate Heart and Russia) approaches, we find the world, secular and religious, reaching a crescendo of chaos and decadence, as amply illustrated in the various issues of Catholic Rural Solutions. The day of reckoning is fast approaching when we as faithful Catholics will have to decide on where we stand… in the earthly city or the City of God, as St. Augustine termed it. Until recently, most of us were content to place ourselves within the insulated confines of the traditional Catholic movement, first implemented by His Excellency, Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre. Here we’ve settled back into a complacency of lassitude. We unfairly castoff the burden of our salvation squarely upon our good and holy priests / pastors, however, it remains chiefly our own responsibility to achieve the goal for which we were created, i.e. eternal happiness with God in Heaven. To be sure, we must look to our pastors for their guidance and advice in our spiritual concerns but to place the entire weight of our redemption exclusively on their shoulders is not only unjust …it is illogical. The Catholic Faith never asks for blind Faith, but for a reasoned Faith, that is the use of our intellects and wills, attributes of the soul, to arrive at Eternal Truth.

Ultimately, our pastors and superiors are men, they weary just as we do; they often err, as we do; they too give in to temporal motivation …as we do; so it is important that while not necessarily questioning their authority we must, as St. Paul advises … prove all things; hold fast that which is good, Thes.1 5:21. Bear in mind some of the greatest heresiarchs of the Protestant Deformation were, in fact, priests: Luther, Knox, Calvin, and others. Then, as now, when these priests fell so grievously, they took thousands, perhaps millions, of souls with them to their doom.  So, beware, do not place what is ultimately our personal load on the shoulders of others alone, but we must also verify the teachings and guidance of our priests and superiors through the comparison to the good and unchanging Sacred Magisterium of the Catholic Church. This is our sole standard by which we are to judge truth from error.

Additionally, we must have a deep and rich prayer life, yet again, we must not solely rely on prayer alone, we must be proactive and the first proactive means is to read, read, READ. Start with Holy Scriptures; it is to a Catholic’s shame that the false religion of Protestantism has a better recall of Sacred Scripture than the average Catholic. We should also be reading the works of great and wise holy men from the past; the Desert Fathers comes to mind here. Finally, as traditional Catholics we must become familiar with the complete writings of Archbishop Lefebvre, most especially his writings and teachings from 1988 until his death in 1991. This will give us a firm foundation from which we can prove all things.

Regrettably, it appears, sometime in the near future we may have to choose! Many will look at the fine chapels we have built; the schools we’ve developed; and the association we have formed with our fellows and ask is it worth giving these up? Yet these are mere temporal aspects of our Faith. Remember, during the Age of Martyrs, the greatest saints were formed from bleak and dreary catacombs, hedgerows, and caves. The glory of the Catholic Faith lies in these not necessarily in the marvelous marbled halls of fine churches and chapels, as inspiring as they may be. So through the smoke and haze we now are experiencing let us ever see before us the Truths of our Faith and not the magnificence of our chapels, the eloquence of a practiced speaker, or the natural lethargy of our concupiscent human nature. Let us rest in the bosom of the one, holy, Catholic, and apostolic Faith of Our Lord Jesus Christ and in unchanging Sacred Magisterium Holy Mother Church has provided for our edification.

So pray fervently and without tiring the Rosary for this purpose …the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary as the hour glass of 100 years is quickly draining.

Special Note: Catholic Rural Solutions WordPress Weblog is a private blog run by Richard of Danbury, which promotes small-scale practical Catholic Distributist solutions for traditional Catholic families, and is centered on the Tridentine Rite of Mass and the integral and unadulterated Sacraments pre-VCII. We also have available to the readership many valuable and interesting files, photos and other helpful information on Distributism, gardening, small-scale livestock, preserving and misc. recipes, as well as, a comprehensive book list at:  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Catholic_Rural_Solutions/

About Catholic Rural Solutions

This group is for the practical application of Catholic Distributist teachings as promoted by Pope St. Pius X, Belloc, Chesterton, Maurin and others in the 20th century. This group is also a respite for traditional Catholics who adhere to the Tridentine Rite of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and who share a concern for small independent Catholic communities throughout the world. These communities while primarily small holding farmers, craftsmen and tradesman all espouse an integrated life based on Catholic Social Justice and the Sacred Magisterium of the Church. Through this we intend to inject the Distributist economic principles into the greater society. Please fell free to share your experiences in this vein. Flaming, proselytizing and persecution WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

  1. David Meyer says:

Much to look at here. Nice post. Just one small correction barely worth mentioning though… John Calvin ws not a priest. As a former Calvinist, I wanted to point that out.

    • Quite right! In my enthusiasm to list the herisarchs I included Calvin’s name. Calvin was actually a Catholic layman but he was trained as a humanist lawyer. He eventually rebelled against his Catholic upbringing and Faith and… well the rest is history. Thanks for the correction.
