Saturday Update March 23, 2013
“The Catholic faithful have a strict right to know that the priests to whom they have recourse are not in communion with a counterfeit Church which is evolutionary, Pentecostalism, and syncretist.” (Abp. Lefebvre, Open Letter to Cardinal Gantin, Prefect of the Congregation of Bishops. Econe, 6th July, 1988.)
On the Lighter Side…
William Shatner – Gun Control Works
This is concealed carry in action. That poor thug never saw it coming; then again he is just another stupid criminal preying on a “defenseless” hard working honest citizen. But this time the citizen was armed, and was obviously well acquainted with gun control, meaning the ability to control his gun so as the bullets come out of the barrel well aimed and on the right target, in this case a scumbag out to do no good.
Ryan warns of financial collapse over debt, urges Congress to avert ‘moral failure’
Putting the problem in stark terms, the House Budget Committee chairman and former vice presidential nominee said the nearly $17 trillion debt will “weigh down the country like an anchor” within the next 10 years. He said lenders will at that point lose trust and interest rates across the country will soar — under pressure, he said the federal government will print more money, cheapening the currency and leading to a financial collapse that has the effect of unraveling the social safety net.
Edit. This is what is known as the chickens coming home to roost. After living large since the 1970’s by mortgaging our children’s future we must now pay the piper for the furious dancing in which we so enthusiastically participated. It is inevitable that we must soon bite the bullet and pay for our financial irresponsibility of the past.
Europe Announces Stunning Bailout For Cyprus — Bank Depositors To Get Instant 10% Tax Before Banks Reopen This Week
Intended to apply to everyone from pensioners to Russian oligarchs alleged to have billions stashed away in what officials say is a bloated Cypriot banking sector, the “stability levy” immediately raised a flood of concerns among finance experts over a possible bank run in bigger Eurozone economies, where fragile public finances are also under scrutiny.
Cash machines EMPTIED across Cyprus as 60,000 British savers face losing MILLIONS after £8.7billion EU bailout imposes tax on all of nation’s bank accounts
- · Lines formed at ATMs as people scrambled to pull their money out
- · Word spread that rescue package included a one-off levy on deposits
- · Restrictions stopping people emptying accounts or moving money abroad
- · Up to 3,000 British service personnel are based on the bankrupt island
- · President Nicos Anastasiades agreed to raid with European finance chiefs
- · Said country in ‘state of emergency’ and not acting would be ‘catastrophic’
- · But expats accused the island of ‘plain theft’ as violent protests sparked
- · Britons have around £1.7b of deposits on island and could lose up to £170m
Edit. This bank run in Cyrus has raised red flags all over the Eurozone. Could there be other bank runs throughout Europe? What about the USA? Only time will tell …stay tuned! Meantime, as the bill is coming due for our indiscriminate spending of the last quarter of the last century now our politicians are mishandling the resultant mess. On a personal level get your financial house in order while there is still time.
Rumors of Wars…
Analyst: Russia prepping military to fight U.S.
According to Arbatov, Russia’s defense and foreign policies now reflect that Russia is surrounded by enemies led by the U.S. Moscow is concerned that the U.S. and its NATO allies will invade Russia at any time.
Arbatov said the U.S. is using the pro-democracy opposition inside Russia to subvert Putin’s regime and intends to use that opposition to invade Russia.
In addition, he said that the West intends to use military power to seize Russia’s natural resources.
Edit. Of course, most of this is a former Russian Duma Minister just blowing smoke to keep his name before the press and people, but there are fears from the former Soviet Union of Western intervention in the Mid-East which is increasingly excluding them from much of the regions oil resources.
Faith and Morals…
Edit. Many are wondering why I’ve not commented on the pontificate of His Holiness Pope Francis. Some have even tried to accuse me of bias against him because I’ve not said anything, but the simple truth is that I knew nothing of Jorge Mario Cardinal Bergoglio of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I know little now of him as Pope Francis. In trying to find information there is a vast sea of confusion and speculation about what he has done or endorsed as Cardinal and what he will do as Pope Francis.
As Cardinal he has been accused of: defending Sodomite civil unions; possible cooperation with the military junta (*who were responsible for Desaparecidos (the disappeared ones) of Argentina after their takeover of the government). *Note: I did not say he but they were responsible. It is also speculated that he is in favor of an end to mandated celibacy, which is a discipline and not a doctrine or dogma …and so it goes on and on. Yet all allegations and speculations remain largely unfounded. It seems the media with nothing to report on his past has decided to create the news rather than report it.
At any rate, we will all have to wait and see what his pontificate brings. Hopefully, the Holy Ghost and his reported devotion to Our Lady will inspire him to make truly meaningful strides back to the traditions and Sacred Magisterium of Eternal Rome. Let us pray for this.

Pollinating insects disappear as GMOs proliferate: What will become of our food supply?
As we have covered time and time again, neonicotinoids and other pesticide and herbicide products are directly responsible for weakening and killing off bees and other crop pollinators, particularly in North America where GMOs are most widely cultivated.
“The proof is obvious that one of the major reasons of the bees’ decline is by the ingestion of GMO proteins,” explains a report by Brit Amos from Global Research about the decline of bee colonies. “The truth is that organic farming is relatively untouched as the bee crisis is concerned. Organic farming maintains the diversity of the eco-system and preserves the quality of the foods produced.”
Edit. As a beekeeper for well over a decade I’ve experienced this firsthand: the sudden disappearance of entire colonies with no tell-tale remnants of any sort to indicate a disease. Over the many years I’ve kept bees I’ve only been able to successfully winter over my charges during one winter season, and this was only one of my five colonies. The one hive that did survive was a wild captured colony I had gotten the prior spring. So every year I’ve been forced to buy between 3 and 5 new colonies. This not only adds to the cost but also one complete yearly cycle is not enough for a beekeeper to share in the colonies bounty as they need the honey production to make it through the next winter.
Beekeepers Sue EPA Over Pesticide Approval
The coalition wants EPA to immediately suspend the registrations of the insecticides clothianidin and thiamethoxam. The pesticides have been “repeatedly identified as highly toxic to honey bees, clear causes of major bee kills and significant contributors to the devastating ongoing mortality of bees known as colony collapse disorder,” the groups said.
Edit. While there is no doubt that colony collapse disorder (CCD) is a fact, (I’ve experienced it myself), and this is the first concrete action by any group to do something about it, essentially, they are burdened with proving that the pesticides actually are causing this now widespread malady among honeybee colonies. To date there has been no absolute causation found, and suspects include, yes, pesticides, but also cellphones, and even genetically engineered organism. It will be most interesting to see where this case leads.
The Times They are A Changin’…
Food stamps put Rhode Island town on monthly boom-and-bust cycle
The economy of Woonsocket was about to stir to life. Delivery trucks were moving down river roads, and stores were extending their hours. The bus company was warning riders to anticipate “heavy traffic.” A community bank, soon to experience a surge in deposits, was rolling a message across its electronic marquee on the night of Feb. 28: “Happy shopping! Enjoy the 1st.”
Edit. Growing up in the South Bronx, NY during the 1960’s there were many folks on food stamps and welfare. At that time it was considered rare, though I knew of several families who were second generation on such government aid. So government welfare is nothing new, however, what has changed is the status of recipients of such aid.
During my formative years it was considered a shame to be on welfare, food stamps, and other forms of aid. Indeed, welfare jokes and jibes were second only to “yo-momma” jokes among neighborhood kids. Most who were on aid did not volunteer the info and it only came about from someone else on food stamps revealing, usually during a fight, that he saw his family at the welfare office. Today, there is no longer a stigma connected with being a government charge, often, though certainly not in every case, it is looked at as an entitlement.
Please don’t misunderstand I’m not against government aid as a safety net for those who are down on their luck, however, when multiple generations within a family make this a way of life something is wrong with the system. Of late the economy and the movement of industry from the US has forced many into the food stamp, welfare, and medical programs provided by various levels of government. Since this migration is the effective cause of such an increase in the aid roles the remedy should be to concentrate on real living wage jobs and not in increasing aid.
One aspect of welfare is as one is forced into government aid the “golden rule” takes effect; that is, those who have the gold make the rules. This means that government now has the capability to control aspects of your life and living standards, which most did not suspect. This unanticipated intrusion of the government in your life is debilitating, to say the least, but it makes one wonder if the Socialist liberal government and media did not intentionally engineer the economy to gain the greatest number of people dependent on government. Certainly a speculation worth contemplating,no?
The Internet is a surveillance state
This is ubiquitous surveillance: All of us being watched, all the time, and that data being stored forever. This is what a surveillance state looks like, and it’s efficient beyond the wildest dreams of George Orwell.
Edit. Beware of social media and website, they reveal more about you than you may know.
Politics and more…
Bronx kids learn meditation to go “Nonvio,” will take part in mass meditation at U.N. with guru Shankar
MS 331 students join with Art of Living Foundation in national campaign to be non-violent
Shenaz Kapasi, a special education math and science teacher at MS 331, taught Perez meditation last year. She said meditation helps ease trauma around frightening experiences, and hopes to expand the classes to the whole school.
Edit. It is most amazing that politically correct metaphysical thought, which is an aspect of religious philosophy, is accepted by the Separation of Church and State crowd. Had this been a Christian meditative session contemplating the meaning of Jesus Christ’s Incarnation for the sins of men, howls and screams would be heard from the halls of Middle School 331 to the Halls of the Supreme Court; yet not a peep out of Christians, most especially Catholics. So yet another good reason to home school the little souls that God has entrusted to your care.
Let The Men of Wisdom Speak…
God: The Pre-requisite for All Politics’ ~ 02/02/2013
Bishop Williamson, …is an Independent Traditional Catholic Bishop, appointed by Archbishop Lefebvre. He’s a seeker of and defender of the Truth — and not afraid to speak out. Why is the enemy of civilizations, traditions and cultures so keen on desacralizing the World? Bishop Williamson will tell us in his speech.
Edit. The epitome of not only Catholic religious tradition and sound theological thinking, but also highly refined, cultured, and a master of reason and logic, His Excellency Bishop Richard N. Williamson gives an overview of the state of mankind over the past 500 years. Here he presents the direct line of the decline of Western (Christian Society) from Henry VIII down through our times and gives an extrapolation of what will logically follow. This is a fascinating presentation given before, with minor exception behind a conservative audience.
Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof.
Needless to say there were no peas planted on St. Patrick’s Day March 17th or any other times this week …not with six inches of snow cover. In fact, it would appear that we are still in for a little more of Ol’ Man Winter at least until April 1st. Indeed, there is a possibility of another and hopefully final blizzard early next week.
I was able to begin preparing the greenhouse for my seedlings which I hope to plant, (at least for the cold season crops) sometime in the coming week. With the increasing daylight the ornamental plants in the greenhouse have begun to flower and my bi-monthly feeding has also “greened” them up quite a bit.
Meantime, I always use the final snows of winter to lay down my grass seed. I try to get it down before the arrival of snow, and the snow not only pushes the seed in but also insulates and protects if from foraging robins. I may be able to do this Monday as the daytime temperature is in the forties for today, tomorrow, and Monday. If the blizzard arrives as predicted on late Monday or early Tuesday it will provide enough cover to hide the seed at least until Thursday or Friday which should give enough time for sprouting.
In the dungeon, all is in readiness for the professionals, i.e. the electrician and plumber, before I can do any further work. That further work will consist of sheetrocking, sanding, priming, and painting. Then all should be done and ready for the carpeting. Whew! …that took longer then expected; but I shouldn’t count the chickens before they hatch!
SO while awaiting more seasonable weather to begin outside work in earnest I’m taking care of the Hunny-do List, which has been overdue all winter.
Putting It all In Perspective & Final commentary…
All things, secular and religious, remain in flux, despite the election of a new Pope, Francis, formerly of Argentina. Perhaps we should look on this relative lull in the news as a respite and a chance to appreciate the coming Easter season. Hopefully, we’ve all had a productive Lent and as we are approaching Passion-tide, let us redouble our efforts to further prayer and sacrifice. Even if we have done nothing of note so far this Lent, it is still not too late to intensify our recognition of our sins, confess them, and make reparation through prayer, fasting, and penance.
In addition to this let us assiduously pray fervently and without tiring the Rosary for this purpose …the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary as the hour glass of 100 years is quickly draining.
