Caught in the Crosshairs

Caught in the Crosshairs

We’ve all heard about the NSA spying program(s) that, thanks to arch-whistleblower Mr. Edward Snowden, has had the spotlight cast upon it, however, what most American either fail to realize or deliberately ignore is that spying and surveillance of the average American citizen has been occurring since at least 1982. Yes, way back into the Ronald Reagan Presidency!

Believed to have originated with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in 1982, in response to Ronald Reagan’s Continuity of Operations plan outlined in the National Security Directive (NSD) 69 / National Security Decision Directive (NSDD) 55, entitled “Enduring National Leadership,” implemented on September 14, 1982, a database was initiated known by the code name Main Core. Main Core contains personal and financial data of millions of U.S. citizens reckoned to be threats to national security. The database’s name derives from the fact that it contains copies of the ‘main core’ or essential items of intelligence information on Americans produced by agencies of the U.S. intelligence community. The existence of the database was first reported on in May 2008 by Christopher Ketchum of RADAR Onlineand also by many online blogs and Salon.com, an online magazine.

In a Salon.com article one of their journalists did some digging into Main Core and what he found merely confirms what Snowden had to say. Although the article was lengthy and detailed, this particular passage stands out and should make the hair of the back of the neck of every red-blooded American stand out:

The following information seems to be fair game for collection without a warrant: the e-mail addresses you send to and receive from, and the subject lines of those messages; the phone numbers you dial, the numbers that dial in to your line, and the durations of the calls; the Internet sites you visit and the keywords in your Web searches; the destinations of the airline tickets you buy; the amounts and locations of your ATM withdrawals; and the goods and services you purchase on credit cards. All of this information is archived on government supercomputers and, according to sources, also fed into the Main Core database.

Now many readers may be thinking: “well, what is wrong with the government keeping an eye on subversive radicals who potentially can harm to the nation?”, and on the surface they would be correct. The problem comes into play when we try to interpret who is a “subversive radical” and a potential enemy of the state. Since 9/11 many citizens and groups have come under scrutiny via a loose and trivial set of parameters as “potential” subversives; groups as diverse as Pro-life protesters, 2nd Amendment advocates, and Constitutionalists. Indeed, even some fundamentalist and conservative religious groups have been under the microscope.

[Aside: How far we’ve come when truly subversive radicals like the Weather Underground, The Young Lords, The Black Panthers, and other left-wing criminal groups openly advocated the overthrow of the status quo; indeed, many of the leaders of such groups are now in key and influential positions within education, government, and media. They are the driving force behind such draconian policies and programs like as Main Core.]

Now fast forward to 2014… Our illustrious nominally Catholic Governor of New York State, Andrew Cuomo, has advised the nation that Pro-lifers and other extreme conservatives are not welcome in NY. Here is the actual quote:

Their (Republicans) problem is not me and the Democrats; their problem is themselves,” he said. “Who are they? Are they these extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay? Is that who they are? Because if that’s who they are, and they’re the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York, because that’s not who New Yorkers are.

Truly frightening! No? This constitutes a foundational change from a free Democratic Republic which our founding fathers envisioned and designed.  When those of peaceful political positions and ideology are falsely singled out as subversive radicals and who are not only marginalized but actually rejected from participating in the public political forum for nothing more than political, cultural, social, and religious views that go against the dominant power structures of society, it is clearly a signal that something fundamental has changed in our form of government. Will the next step be that we will be denied participation in the democratic system of voting and representation? One has to wonder. Based on all the foregoing it is an valid assumption that anybody who’s ever spoken out against the government, in any medium, is on the list and will be the first to be paid a visit should SHTF, and any sort of martial law is declared.  It is ironic that the very massive spy network being used to ‘protect’ us from terrorism is dissolving into a paranoid police state.

PICorrespondingly shocking, is the lack of protest over both the Main Core and the recent statements of Cuomo. The silence is deafening! I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but the vast majority of Americans simply refuse to see what is happening; largely because it might interfere with their bread and circuses. They are essentially delusional and exist in a Pinocchio-like Pleasure Island. They refuse to read blogs like CRS and to keep themselves informed, yet I’m sure they are all up-to-date on the SuperBowl happenings including post game maneuvers; and even delighted in the bald-faced commercialization of the much lauded SuperBowl ads and commercials. The willful ignorance of the average American never ceases to amaze me.

Pray the Rosary for the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary; it is our last and only recourse.

About Catholic Rural Solutions

This group is for the practical application of Catholic Distributist teachings as promoted by Pope St. Pius X, Belloc, Chesterton, Maurin and others in the 20th century. This group is also a respite for traditional Catholics who adhere to the Tridentine Rite of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and who share a concern for small independent Catholic communities throughout the world. These communities while primarily small holding farmers, craftsmen and tradesman all espouse an integrated life based on Catholic Social Justice and the Sacred Magisterium of the Church. Through this we intend to inject the Distributist economic principles into the greater society. Please fell free to share your experiences in this vein. Flaming, proselytizing and persecution WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

One Response to Caught in the Crosshairs

  1. Hugh,
St. Paul rightly advises us: “For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and power, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.” Eph.6:12. To be sure, we must do all we can to resist and fight evil in the temporary world, but ultimately, just as our true destiny is with God in heaven, so also must the focus of the battle here on earth be in the spiritual realm. We see the same admonition echoed by the Virgin Mary herself in her numerous apparitions. She does not emphasis the physical temporal battle but that we pray unceasingly, storming the gates of Heaven with our petitions. Indeed, even Our Lord instructed the Fatima Children to pray the following: “Sweet Heart of Mary, be the salvation of Russia, Spain, Portugal, Europe and the whole world”; and also, “By Thy pure and Immaculate Conception, O Mary, obtain for me the conversion of Russia, Spain, Portugal, Europe and the whole world.”
Since the real and true Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary has never been performed by the Pope and all the bishops of the world, we see more and more darkness overcoming the world. Even within the Catholic Faith we see a diabolic delusion overtaking the Faithful, which is clearly deeper than a temporal malaise. It is painfully obvious that while we are not precluded from contending evil in this world, our emphasis must, must be in the spiritual, yes even mystical realm. No matter the venue be it the greater secular world, the Crisis of the Catholic Church since VCII, or the Crisis of the SSPX in recent years, it is all the result of the demonically inspired confusion which is the failure to Consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and also not following the advice of St. Paul in placing the focus of battle on spiritual warfare. While true that Catholics, including good and holy popes, have always been surrounded by dark forces, the times of our lives witness a deeper and more penetrating darkness not seen since the days of Noe and the evil days of Sodom and Gomorrah; and it deepens daily.
Since you know me personally, Hugh, you know that prayer, and spiritual and mystical exercises are not my only personal pursuits, this is evidenced by my efforts and commitment to the so-called Resistance Movement within the SSPX and my dedication to these brave clerics and our intrepid Bishop Williamson who lead the charge both spiritually and temporally. Additionally, this Catholic Rural Solutions website, which I’ve been running since way, way before the Crisis of the SSPX was ever apparent, is further proof of my fight in the temporal world. Its stated purpose is to inspire Catholics to seek a rural and agrarian life that is the most conducive means of living the Faith, especially in context to our modern urban and suburban living that is so full of temptations and luxuries. Unfortunately, this is easier said than done, and, in a manner of speaking, is a battle against the darkness in itself.
So, in summary, I don’t understand your comment. Are you saying that St. Paul and Our Holy Mother Mary are wrong and your idea of being vociferous and contentious …even among those who essentially agree with your stand, is the better way? Or, are you saying that our real battle is here in the temporal world and not ultimately with spiritual powers and principalities in high places. In either case, it would seem you’d rather wish to contend with those of like mind instead focusing on the real enemies at hand. If this observation is true, then you dissipate your energies in false pursuit.
