Response to Comment on: Target Economics

Dear Mr. Richard of Danbury, Many of us “good intentioned” citizens…. who have grown up in the deception of Novus Ordo life – but by God’s grace have been allowed to a clearer understanding of to some extent… and now attend one traditional Mass or other are trying, with the help of the Rosary and Our Mother Mary, to dig out of the free masonic lies, modernist snares, that have sucked us into a thick financial muck, that is most difficult to climb out of…

Come Holy Ghost!
Truly, it is by God’s Grace that the Catholics who are moving to the orthodox, traditional Faith are beginning to discern the Truths of our Faith. While I was of the generation that witnessed the before, during, and after of VCII and had a standard by which to judge the innovations foisted on the unsuspecting Faithful, it is folks of your generation who are completely in the dark and, like you, must rely on God’s Grace to see through the haze of the Novus Ordo. Indeed, you are being led by the Holy Ghost to seek the Truth, so be grateful for this gift.

Bottom line… our decisions have been less than wise, not at all Catholic, and in line with the self seeking attitude of our times – so our life is one of debt, a slavery – I’m sure we deserve….

Indeed! …but without seeking excuses, this is how we’ve all been raised, that is, to view success from a secular rather than purely Catholic sense …a sensus fidei! So do not beat yourself too harshly, after all, you’ve now “seen the light”, so to speak.

So What Now??? Much has changed in our understanding of the Faith, how we live our daily lives, and the decisions we make – through the Faith…

We are in the city (South of San Diego), my husband and I and children are willing and wanting to make a move to some other area. We sense it, but not yet sure if it is Our Lady’s promptings or where or what is to be done… so we pray and wait and try to live in His Will…

The path now is to follow the urging of the Holy Ghost by following the true, orthodox, traditional Catholic Faith. If, you are in doubt of the veracity or origin of the path, take time to stop, analyze, and examine the fruits of His lead for “by their fruits you will know them”. We in tradition also have an episcopal moral and theological leader in His Excellency, Bishop Richard N. Williamson; truly an orthodox, traditional Catholic cleric. Also seek friends and form relationships with like-minded fellow Catholics, sometimes easier said than done. Nevertheless, seek them out for together you will have mutual support and parish structure. Finally, study and read of your Catholic Faith by reading pre-VCII books. This will lead to deeper understanding of the Faith and a firmer resolve to follow the true, orthodox, traditional Catholic Faith.

So here or there – how does one STOP living the MODERNIST LIFE? How does one avoid USURY – when drowning in it??? How do we get off of this Wheel of deception, and live a Catholic existence? Blessed Poverty! If we could only obtain it…. but we are worse than poor, we are pathetic slaves to a system we don’t even fully understand.

The initial step is to get off the “debt merry-go-round”, that is, pay-down your debt as quickly as possible. Few people have the foresight to see that in today’s precarious economic and social situation that debt will be a millstone about their necks should a job loss or other personal or system wide situation occur. Again, this may seem hard to do, but if you analyze your budget you can find areas that, while nice to have, are really not all that necessary; for instance, cable TV, (the finger of Satan in the family anyway, but that is another article entirely); or switching to cloth diapers instead of expensive disposable; plus other imaginative steps. Keep in mind though not getting scrupulously austere, allowing family celebrations on regular occasions as time and finances will allow. While this may seem like a hand-to-mouth existence to many friends and family, bear in mind it is they who suffer from a poverty of debt slavery which will eventually become evident. Your sacrifices now will be an investment in your future. His Excellency, +Williamson has, since before his episcopal consecration in 1988, urged a get out of debt strategy as the means of attaining not only peace of mind but of setting up an truly Catholic environment in which the Catholic body and soul will flourish. Also remember that following Our Lord Jesus Christ was never meant to be a walk down herbaceous garden paths; on the contrary, it is a life of sacrifice, repentance, and reparation. So attach any hardships to the Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ and find real peace.

We see now – these past years, that we just want to be Catholic. In a Catholic Culture – (even if this just consists of us, alone, wherever we are….)

Achieving a Catholic culture in our rabidly secular society is extremely difficult as the secular culture is aggressively against any semblance of Christ and his Church in modern Western Civilization. Even a sub-culture of Faith is hard to accomplish. To illustrate, the whole sub-culture of Sodomy, is flourishing mightily within society because our superficial materialistic culture supports it. This is not the case for Catholicism. That said, don’t go it alone as individuals or a family, you need the support of even a loosely connected traditional Catholic parish. Again, seek out like-minded families and form strong bonds. The only caveat is to be sure they are truly on the same traditional and orthodox Catholic page as you and your family. For instance, families that indiscriminately switch from a Motu Proprio Mass and Sacraments …to SSPX-Marian Corp …to a Sede Vacantist Mass can only lead to family confusion. Stay with a truly orthodox traditional Catholic surroundings, preferably not with a Motu Proprio situation, which is designed to ultimately lead astray and water down orthodox Catholic practice.

Well, I’m not the most schooled person… My husband, a retired Navy helicopter pilot, struggling in Real Estate…. me, a homeschool mom. We are grateful for the Truths that we have been allowed to realize in our Faith, for the scales that have been allowed to fall from our eyes… and as more are falling through time – we just need to pick up the pieces of Truth and remold our lives. This will take time – but Time seems to be running short….

Do not belittle yourselves, St. Joseph and the Holy Virgin Mary were largely uneducated by today’s standards and even homeschooled Our Savior Jesus Christ. Indeed, he was so learned that he taught the Scribes, Pharisees, and Elders right in the Temple in Jerusalem; so what better example do you have. As to time running short, all is in God’s hands; He will intervene for “the sake of the elect”, as He promised. Our Catholic Faith is one of hope and comfort and not material ease and status. Follow the lead of the Holy Ghost.

USURY…. what do you have to say about that one???

As regards usury, I have definite ideas on the subject based on Catholic teaching. These will be made evident in future issues of Catholic Rural Solutions; so kept in touch with the blog.

Thank you for reading this rambling thought of a letter… Thank you for sharing your thoughts and seasonal farm happenings….

It is my pleasure! Although our family is now grown with families of their own, We too went through all the struggles and doubts of a contemporary family in Western Society. Therefore, in my blog I try to give the benefit of our experience to those young families struggling now. Just continue the Rosary with the intent of the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart and follow the urgings of the Holy Ghost and all will be well, though at times it may not seem so.
In addition, take comfort in the Prayer of St, Theresa of Avila:

Let nothing disturb thee,
Let nothing frighten thee.
All things pass.
God does not change.
Patience achieves everything.
Whoever has God finds he lacks nothing.
God alone suffices.

Blessings to you and your family, +JMJ Barbara de la Vega

God bless you and yours also, and all who hold the true, orthodox, traditional Catholic Faith.

About Catholic Rural Solutions

This group is for the practical application of Catholic Distributist teachings as promoted by Pope St. Pius X, Belloc, Chesterton, Maurin and others in the 20th century. This group is also a respite for traditional Catholics who adhere to the Tridentine Rite of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and who share a concern for small independent Catholic communities throughout the world. These communities while primarily small holding farmers, craftsmen and tradesman all espouse an integrated life based on Catholic Social Justice and the Sacred Magisterium of the Church. Through this we intend to inject the Distributist economic principles into the greater society. Please fell free to share your experiences in this vein. Flaming, proselytizing and persecution WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

  1. Beverly Knox says:

The truth is to be found in books written many years prior to Vatican II by faithful Catholic priests and bishops. To begin……

Unity is one of the Four Marks of the Catholic Faith given to us by Our Lord Himself and contained in The Nicene Creed: I Believe in….One – Holy – Catholic – Apostolic. Each of the Four Marks is an Article of Faith which must be believed by all Catholics. The Four Dogmatic Marks of the Church come directly from Our Lord and appear many times in Holy Scripture.

In the book, The Straight Path, Imprimatur, 1914, by Rev. M.J. Phelan, S.J., “Christ being God foresaw all things to come…The God who longs for the salvation of souls, and Who foresaw the torture of perplexed minds, must have made provisions to relieve and enlighten them. He surely did not leave them to grope without help, He must have flung out a loving hand to guide us, by giving His inspired Volume (Bible) definite character marks by which His true Church could be distinguished…These marks cannot be obscure for if they are to be read by all, they must shine as luminous lamps…” This learned Jesuit teaches those seeking to find the true Church, quote: “Opening the sacred Volume he soon discovers that God actually has left four characteristic marks by which His true Church could be known from the spurious imitations. That she should be One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic…He closes the Bible and surveys the various Churches in order to discover the four divine birth-marks, the four credentials that guarantee a heavenly origin. In one and, only, in one Christian body he discovers them…Inquiry now ends, for he has arrived at truth…Christ being God was bound to leave definite marks to distinguish His true Church from various false claimants…He has done so and one Christian body possesses them. Therefore, that and no other is the true Church. This line of reasoning is so direct and so simple that while it satisfies the most cultured intellect, the untutored can follow it with ease; and so irresistible is the force of the conclusion arrived at that no trick or sophistry can loosen the iron grasp with which conviction holds the mind. Father contines,This conviction is shot home with the force and precision of an iron bolt.” Further, under the chapter heading, “The Unity of the True Church,” Father states, “ Christ and His Apostles when describing the true Church liken it to many things; in each and every comparison the leading, dominant idea is one of unbroken unity…If diversities of faith and contradictory heads were discovered in a Christian body, if it became split into different groups acknowledging various heads, it could not be known as the true Church of Christ…that Church has no claim to be recognized as the Church of Christ.” Moreover, Fr. Phelan tells us that Christ for our edification, “… abandons the figurative for literal language and plainly states, ‘There shall be one sheepfold, and one shepherd’ (Matt. XII. 25) He sets up a picture that rejects even the remotest idea of distinct Churches or discordant faiths or diverse pastors. A sheepfold having but one door and one shepherd…Nowhere do we find Him speaking of churches, ‘Upon this rock I will build My Church,’ Christ never said My Churches.” concludes the learned, Father Phelan. (Emphasis added)

From Monsignor McGuire’s, Baltimore Catechism, Imprimatur 1953, “When Our Lord was on earth, He did exactly what He promised to do. For example, Christ promised that His Church would have certain marks or signs, so that all men can see and know that it belongs to Him….the Catholic Church is the only one that has these Four Marks.” Our Merciful Savior gave us these Marks for our protection so that we could recognize the Church He founded as well as false churches. Remember, anything that is not the whole truth is not truth.

From Holy Scripture, “Until we meet in the unity of faith…that henceforth we be no more children tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine by the wickedness of men, by cunning craftiness by which they lie in wait to deceive.” Douay Rheims – (Eph. 4:11-14)

Explanation of the Baltimore Catechism, by Rev. Thomas L. Kinkaid, Imprimatur 1891, “Our Lord said, ‘My Church will be one; it will be holy; it will be Catholic; it will be apostolic; and if any church has not these four marks, you may be sure it is not my Church.’ Some false churches may seem to have one or two, but never all the marks; so when you find even one of these marks wanting, you will know immediately it is not the true Church established by Christ…only one can be telling the truth, and that one is the religion or Church that can show the four given marks.”

Religion Doctrine and Practice, Imprimatur1931, by Francis Cassilly, S.J., “Marks of the Church…any religious body that lacks only one of them (Marks) is a false or counterfeit Church. Reason tells us that since God is all-truthful He could not establish different churches teaching in His name contradictory doctrines, else He would be responsible for the error in belief.” This Jesuit Father, a Professor of Theology, further teaches us, “What is meant by the Unity of the Church? The meaning is oneness or sameness for all times and the world over.”

My Catholic Faith, (1937) by Bishop LaRavoire Morrow, (pg. 81) Chapter heading, Perpetuity of the Church, “Christ intended the Church to preserve the whole of what he taught and the shining marks which He gave it in the beginning. If the Church lost any of the qualities that God gave it, it could not be said to be perpetual, because it would not be the same institution, Perpetuity implies unchangeability.” (pages 69-73) “The True Church is One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic….Any church that lacks even one of these marks is an imitation, a false church, and not the one founded by Our Lord. The Catholic Church is the only one which possesses all these marks.”

The following quotes are from the chapter Marks of the True Church, by Bishop Morrow.

The Church Is One “The True Church must be ONE. Its members must be united in doctrine, in worship, and in government. ‘If a kingdom is divided against itself that kingdom cannot stand’ (Mark 3:23). ‘There shall be one fold and one shepherd’” (John 10:16).

The Church is Holy “The True Church must be Holy, because it was Divinely founded, ‘Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves’ ” (Matt.15)

The Church is Catholic “The True Church must be Universal or Catholic. It must be for all peoples of every nation and for all times and teach the same faith everywhere.”

The Church is Apostolic “The True Church must be Apostolic. It must be the Church propagated by the Apostles. Its rulers must derive their office and authority by lawful succession from the Apostles. It must hold intact the doctrine and tradition of the Apostles to whom Christ gave authority to teach.” (Emphasis throughout appear in the original)

How merciful Our Saviour is, who makes it so simple and easy for His children who have a love of the Truth, to find it. It stands out as a beacon and beckons to us.

My Sunday Missal, Confraternity of the Precious Blood, Imprimatur 1938, “Preparation for Confession… Examination of Conscience…My Duties to God…We sin Against Faith by willful doubts concerning any article of the Creed.”

    Truth cannot contradict Truth!
