Life Imitating Art…?
We’ve seen it on TV since our childhood. That’s right… Roy and Dale battling the Cow Rustlers; yet who’d a thunk it? …now in the 21st Century we are seeing history repeat itself not on the big silver screen but right in Idaho… cattle rustlers in action. Yep… seems the high price of beef has caused the bad guys to seek some easy money by rustling cattle from remote ranches in the West. 150 cattle valued at $350,000 were spirited away by some high tech thieves from a ranch in the remote plains and gulches. Wow! $350,000… I guess you might say that ranch was the high priced spread… sorry for the bad pun. Anyhow, as inflation hits we see some less than honest folks always seeking an angle for easy money. Here in the Eastern big cities there has for the past decade been a glut of copper thefts from vacation and abandoned homes which has set the owners back quite a sum. Now we see cattle rustling…! Too bad the rancher didn’t see episode 17 of Gene Autry; he could’a headed ‘em off at the pass and dry-gulched ‘em.
The thought of cattle rustling conjures up images of posses, John Wayne, and cheap grade B westerns from the Saturday matinee at the Bijoux Thee’ate’r. Just proves truth really is stranger than fiction. Where’s the Duke when you need him?
